JIM SHUE'S HELL FIRE

In September of 1968, Jim Shue, a professional racer and car builder, started working on his racecar, the ’69 Corvette Funny Car know as Hell Fire. Jim hired two of the businesses’ best driver John Wright and crew chief Steve Montrelli.

Hell Fire was the quickest and fastest Corvette Funny Car (7.29 ET. – 204.22MPH). In the summer of ’69 the Hell Fire Corvette burned up the tarmac breaking records at Lions Drag Strip (May 1969). Irwindale Raceway (June 1969). Carlsbad Raceway (September 1969) and is still only the second Funny Car to ever win three major events in one weekend – beat that!

In 2019, Jim found his old car in New Orleans. He purchased the car and after 50 years, decided to restore it to its original glory. Jim Shue has brought back a member of his old crew team Steve Montrelli, premier engine builder and tuner with assistance of Doug Davenport for a “Blast from the Past” and ready to heat things up again. Unfortunately, John Wright has passed away and Jim is commemorating the Hell Fire in his memory. He will be missed. Johnny was a huge part of the Hell Fire success in 1969.
